Outreach & Advocacy

We can help you start your new life in Canada. Outreach & Advocacy services include, but are
not limited to:

  • Identify issues, develop plans, address needs, and overcome barriers to adjusting to life in Canada

  • Learn about Canadian society and systems (e.g., school, legal, health, tax, employment)

  • Learn about and connect to community
    and public resources for particular interests and needs

  • Complete critical forms and applications
    for government departments (e.g., landed status, citizenship, family re-unification, housing subsidy, senior, child and
    disability benefits).

  • Pro Bono Law Clinics provide free legal advice to those unable to afford a lawyer.

  • We can accompany you to government and community agencies.

  • Services offered in over 15 languages.

Counselling Services & Support Groups

Have you had to sacrifice a lot to start from nothing? Are your challenges affecting your family relationships? CHIMO offers free Counselling and Support Groups for adults, youth, children and families for a wide range of issues. Our team of professional counsellors can help you work through particular cultural and family adjustment issues (e.g., gender role differences, inter-generational issues, family relationships, domestic violence).

Nova Transition House

Nova Transition House provides safe shelter, information, emotional support, practical assistance, education, and advocacy for women and their children who are fleeing violence at home. It is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with workers speaking more than 10 different languages including English, Cantonese, Mandarin, Polish, Vietnamese, French, Japanese & Persian.

Nova House is a temporary refuge where residents can obtain assistance with immediate practical concerns such as health, legal issues, housing, financial needs, schooling, child care, and transportation.
