Outreach and Advocacy

The Outreach & Advocacy program provides information, referral, initial supports, advocacy and bridging to community and public agencies. The goal is to help people identify, find, and more easily access the various resources they need to address the diverse challenges they are facing. Advocates assist clients with a wide range of issues, including housing, income assistance, family relationships, employment, immigration, family violence, pensions, disabilities, and mental health.

Service is provided in more than a dozen different languages, including Mandarin, Cantonese and Punjabi.

Services for New Immigrants and Refugees

Hours of operation for this service:
Monday & Friday - 9am to 4pm
Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday -
9am to 8pm
Saturday - 10am to 2pm

Information and support services in a dozen languages to immigrants and refugees living in Richmond and South Delta. Language proficiency in Mandarin, Cantonese, Punjabi, Hindi, Urdu, Farsi, Arabic, Tagalog, Spanish, French, Dutch and English. New languages added regularly.

Immigrant “settlement” services help individuals and families:

  • Identify issues, develop plans, address needs, and overcome barriers to adjusting to life in Canada
  • Learn about Canadian society and systems (e.g., school, legal, health, tax)
  • Learn about and link to generic and specialized community and public resources for particular interests and needs
  • Make appointments for needed services with personal accompaniment if needed
  • Complete critical forms and applications for government departments (e.g., landed status, citizenship, family re-unification, housing subsidy)
  • Develop resumes and look for employment
  • Prepare for formal hearings, tribunals and other court proceedings
  • Work through particular cultural and family adjustment issues (e.g., gender role differences, inter-generational issues, family relationships, domestic violence)

Neighbourhood Pro Bono Law Clinics

Practicing professional lawyers provide legal advice to people unable to afford a lawyer. Clinics cover family, immigration, and civil law matters.
