People of different ages, experience, education levels, cultural backgrounds, ethnicities, abilities and beliefs make up our organization. 3. What are you looking for in a volunteer?The qualities that are central to all of CHIMO’s work are: willingness to learn, the capacity to listen, compassion, and a genuine interest in helping others. Volunteers must also be non-judgmental and have a respectful attitude toward others. 4. How do I become a CHIMO volunteer?Please see our Application Package (doc). 5. Do I need to have previous volunteer experience?No, our training is comprehensive and will prepare you for the volunteer role that you choose. 6. What is the time commitment required to volunteer?The volunteer time commitment is program specific. Please see individual program descriptions for details. 7. I speak two languages but my English is intermediate. Am I a suitable candidate to volunteer with CHIMO?We serve a diverse community and value diversity in our staff and volunteers. What if I am interested in volunteering for two programs?We ask that you apply to only one program. There are opportunities to participate in other programs once your initial commitment has been fulfilled in your original program of choice. 9. What if I have to miss one or two of the training sessions?Participants must attend all training sessions before volunteering. 10. What if I want to continue after my initial commitment is finished?Volunteers are encouraged to continue to develop their skills within CHIMO.
