Richmond Chamber of Commerce - 2004 Business Execellence Award

On Tuesday, October 19, 2004, CHIMO Crisis Service was very honoured to have been chosen as the recipient of the Community Champion Richmond Chamber of Commerce Award.

"Walking with people through crisis, helping people make sound choices." That's the mantra of CHIMO Crisis Services, a non-profit organization specializing in social services related to natural crises.

In 2003, through fundraising efforts, Chimo built a fully-equipped permanent facility for Nova House in Richmond. Over 125 volunteers of widely diverse ages and cultural backgrounds provide help 24 hours a day in a safe refuge for women and children traumatized by violence. Since opening in 1981, Nova House has assisted more than 5,000 women and children from all walks of life.

"This is such an honour and surprise," executive director Joan Cowderoy said. "I'd like to thank the chamber and city in helping to recognize the good work done by so many in Richmond and the board members, staff and volunteers for their amazing contributions and dedication they show constantly."
