No specific experience is required to take part in any of our unique programs. We provide comprehensive training to prepare you for the volunteer role that you choose.

Permanent Full-Time, 35hrs / wk

Assistant Coordinator, Community Education

 This position assists the Coordinator in planning, developing and expanding community education activities in the school system and community; participates in screening and training of volunteers; assists supervisor with support and supervision of volunteers.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

 

·           Help to oversee the day-to-day operation of the program.

·           Work with the supervisor to support, supervise and evaluate program volunteers. Ensure appropriate scheduling of volunteers.

·           Make recommendations to supervisor regarding program development, policies and procedures and participate in program evaluation.

·           Work together with program coordinators and other staff to undertake appropriate volunteer recognition activities and special events for volunteers.

·           Develop and maintain volunteer program statistics and reports. Maintain records of volunteer placements, hours, requests, concerns, etc.

·           Develop written informational, educational and promotional materials.

·           Make arrangements for educational presentations in the schools and community and assist in the delivery of presentations.

 

Qualifications:

 

·         Relevant Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of post-secondary education and experience

·         Demonstrated experience in training and managing volunteers

·         Experience in delivering educational material to children, youth and adult learners

·         Demonstrated success in working effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds (e.g.: cultural, religious, age, sexual orientation, etc.)

 

Employment Information:

(Temporary Part-Time, 26hrs / wk, one year term)

Crisis & Suicide Intervention Counsellor

 

This position provides short-term crisis intervention counselling, assessment and referral services to adults who are in crisis, have made a suicide attempt, are at risk or have been bereaved by suicide.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

·         Provide crisis and suicide intervention services, including assessment, clinical counselling, follow-up and referrals.

·         Develop and implement therapeutic plans necessary to meet client goals and objectives.

·         Provide individual and group counselling interventions using therapeutic techniques depending on client need.

·         Provide clinical counselling to drop-in clients as required and when available.

 

Qualifications:

·         Masters degree in a relevant field with two (2) years recent related experience, or an equivalent combination of experience and education

·         Experience providing counseling to individuals, families and groups

·         Experience in crisis intervention, suicide intervention, conflict resolution and bereavement support

·         Knowledge of trauma and experience working with survivors of trauma including physical, emotional and sexual abuse

·         Demonstrated success in working effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds (e.g.:  cultural, religious, age, sexual orientation, etc)

·         Ability to function independently under pressure and effectively manage crises and emergency situations

·         Satisfactory completion of a Criminal Record Search is a requirement of this position

·         Ability to work flexible work week

 

Employment Information

This is a temporary part-time position working a flexible schedule including some evenings.  The starting salary is $24.96 - $27.91 per hour with a competitive benefits package.  This position requires union membership.  The position is open to male and female applicants.  Candidates who speak Cantonese and/or Mandarin are strongly encouraged to apply.
